Why I'm Focused on Relationships, Not Just Names

Quality relationships with vetted subs matter more than a long list.

A prime contractor is only as good as the team they can assemble. I'm not out here collecting subcontractor names like trading cards — I'm building relationships with firms I trust to stand behind their work when pressure hits.

Vet before you need them. The worst time to evaluate a subcontractor is during a live proposal. I'm doing capability reviews, checking past performance, and validating certifications before an opportunity ever hits the street. That way, when the RFP drops, I'm matching proven partners to real requirements.

Clear expectations from day one. Ambiguity kills teaming relationships. Every partner I bring on knows exactly what they're responsible for, how we'll communicate, and how we'll handle disputes. I sign teaming agreements early and revisit them when scope shifts. No surprises.

Performance is the best recruiting tool. Subcontractors want to work with primes who pay on time, communicate clearly, and protect their scope. I treat my subs like partners because they are. I'm learning that reputation attracts better firms over time — a cycle that benefits everyone, including the federal customer.

If you're a small business looking for prime relationships, reach out through our partners page. I'm always expanding the bench.
